NYSADVS PRESIDENT’S AWARD for PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE
2010 Recipient
Kaye Derman - 4th Annual President’s Award Winner
A member of GNYADVS since 1995, Kaye Derman has consistently played an
active role in both the Greater New York Chapter and on the state level.
She has also served on the nominating committee for AHVRP (then ASDVS).
As the Assistant Director of Volunteer Services at Mt. Sinai Medical
Center in New York City since 1987, Kaye has had the opportunity to
interview and place so many people from so many walks of life. Kaye was
responsible for the development of the nationally known Premed Research
Opportunities Program, placing college students from across the country
into research opportunities at this prestigious academic medical center.
Over the years, she has seen students go from premed college students,
to medical students, to practicing physicians....and she feels fortunate
to be part of the process. Additionally, Kaye has presented the Premed
Research Opportunities Program at chapter level meetings, as well as at
a New York City-wide conference on volunteerism sponsored by the Burden
Center for the Aging.
Kaye was also actively involved with the United Hospital Fund, serving
on several task force committees, including the Committee on Voluntary
Initiatives, helping to shape the future of health care and
volunteerism.
Her service to NYSADVS includes: finance chair, professional development
chair (where she was instrumental in bringing the "Principles and
Practices of Volunteer Management" course locally for the first time),
conference co-chair, and conference program chair.
Kaye has been a steady, dignified presence at Board meetings over the
years; always giving thoughtful consideration and valuable insight to
whatever topic was on the table, but never letting that serious side of
her overshadow her warmth, sense of humor, or her love for the
association that she has served so passionately.
On a personal note, I have had the pleasure of developing a great
friendship with Kaye as we traveled to many Board meetings and
conferences together through the years...and, so, today it is my honor
to present the 2010 President’s Award for Professional Excellence to my
friend and colleague, Kaye Derman. |
